The Easiest Jar Cake Ever

This is an easy dessert to put together and yet your guest will think you are treating them to something extra special...which you are because they are!

Ingredients:
Cake of your choice from scratch or box mix baked in a large sheet pan
Whipped cream, cool whip, what ever you choose
Frosting of your choice...made from scratch or from a can!

How is that for ingredients!!! Go wild! Get crazy or keep it simple!

Simple is what I did, as I used what I had on hand in the pantry and freezer.

Once your cake is baked and cooled, get out those jars! Mine are little as I am the "portion control queen" and my hubby can take the little jars in his lunch with ease.

I used two different sized biscuit cutters as the bottom of the jar is a bit smaller than the top.

Cut the circles of cake, lay the smallest in the bottom of the jar, dollop a spoonful of whipped cream on the top.

Lay the larger circle of cake on top of the whipped cream and press down gently.

Top that with a small amount of frosting and you are done!

Put the lid on top and store in the fridge until you are ready to eat!

They look adorable and are fun for your family or guests!

A Special Menu

I am having a small group of very special ladies for a crafting night at the end of the month.
We will be making burlap wreaths, swags, etc.....BUT!
There has to be food involved!
So since we are all responsible for a portion of the dinner that night, I created a fun little menu!

We will be putting flowers on the wreaths, so I have started the girls out with a flower on the menu that can be put on their wreath!

Each page of the menu is labeled with a girl's name, when that page is flipped up, the instructions for their part of the dinner are there. And they all know what the other gals are bringing!

Since the theme of the night is "burlap", I kept the menu on the shabby chic side of things.
If you would be interested in making these, please let me know and I can post a template for downloading.

We Interrupt This Blog

I am interrupting the posts of the past week -

you know, the posts of the fun vacation pictures  -

the crazy construction (and destruction) pictures  -

for a small bit of creativity!

I love to make fun "flag" swags to decorate for parties that I have.

They are inexpensive, pretty, and add joy to the celebration!

I made this swag for hmmmm, Mother's day?? I think.

I have not taken it down because I like it so much!

When I walk thru my house of chaos it makes me smile!

This was an easy project, consisting of a clearance package of small square fun print paper pieces, scissors and a hole punch!

I cut the flags shapes to the desired size and then cut the "v" in the bottoms of them all.

I did all this while sitting at night watching tv with my hubby.

Hole punching was next, I punched two in the tops of all the flags.

I then put two flags back to back so that if swag is hung where both sides are seen, it is pretty on both of the sides!

Next I strung them (really? yes, really)  and hung them on my mirror!

Lovely little project that takes very little time, little efforts and is just stinkin cute!

Ok, there is really no reason for the next two pictures other than I LOVE this print on this particular paper!!

 So adorable!

Bread Board....DIY

When preparing for our dinner party the other night, I realized that I needed a long narrow bread board and did not own one!

Sooooooooooooo, down to the basement I went...found some reclaimed lumber that was the correct width and measured and drew where I wanted all the cuts to be.

I had the idea from a picture I had seen...and in my crazy head knew that I could figure something out.

My husband (fearful I am sure!) wandered down to the basement to see what was happening.

Oh he should know better!!!

I then told him I had a project for him and showed him what I wanted done.

I am so glad he is as agreeable as he is!!!

He cut....I then cleaned. And cleaned and cleaned! That board had been out in the weather for years and had a lot of dirt!

But I LOVE the out come!!!

And you know...it's not just for bread!!

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

We were a host home for an event called "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner".

The gist is, that you sign up to be either a host home or a guest and you have no idea before arriving who's home you will be at or whom your guests will be!

So. Much. Fun!

As the host home, we were only responsible for the home (obviously) drinks and bread.

The three couples dining with us brought all the other food! Main dish, vegetable and dessert.

It was, odd to say the least, to not be the "chef". I love to make others feel spoiled by making special things.

So I made all feel special with lovely flavored butters for the bread, fun table settings and a homey inviting environment.

I snapped a few pictures and am sharing them with you!

A Little blue bird told me where to go!!

Did you know that you can whip honey!! Just simply poor regular honey into a mixer and let it whip for about 10-15 minutes....it has the look of marshmallow cream but a thinner consistency. It was a big hit!

Herbed butter and Maple Syrup Cinnamon Butter were also on the table.

And fun drinking "glasses" with colorful straws rounded out the table settings.

I would challenge you to step out and do something out of the ordinary....and have a lot of fun doing it!!
