Make Someone Special, Feel Even MORE Special!!

How special would your family members feel if you brought THIS to the table?!!

Pretty? Yes! Special? Yes! Yummy? Yes indeed!

Difficult and time consuming? NOT AT ALL!!

This was a special Anniversary dessert that I made for my In-Laws last night to celebrate their 54th Anniversary!

And here is how easy it was. In my freezer I had an angel food cake (bought from the bakery section of a super market) a tub of Cool Whip and in my pantry a box of pudding. All these were sugar free, as my MIL is diabetic. I cut the cake in thin layers and simply layered cake, pudding, and cool whip, 2 layers of each. Done.

I keep these small glass cups for dessert specials, and use them often, as I think my family is pretty special! AND....it is built in portion control! BONUS!

But, they look pretty, make you feel special and add very little extra work to dessert time.

I will admit, I have a dishwasher, so it does not add to the work of clean up, but I can see how it would seem "excessive" to the person who must wash their dishes by hand, HOWEVER, you and your family are worth a bit of spoiling once in a while!!

Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Playing Around With Vignettes....

We all have them, vignettes. Those places on top of our end tables, coffee tables, counters, dressers, dining tables, etc. Places that we "display" our treasures.

It is an easy way to get pops of color in our rooms, and easy way to show our personalities, and you can use just about anything to do it!

For example, here on my kitchen island, I have a colander, candle jar and pepper mill.

The key to a great vignette is to cluster 3 things. Odd numbers will ALWAYS be more pleasing to the eye than even numbers of things. Odd numbers of treasures will make sense to the human eye, while even numbers will be perceived as "off". (this is not the same when hanging symmetrical photos tho....another post!)

I added even more color to the colander by filling it with apples (which spilled out & I liked that look) but alas, the apples do not last, however, were quite tasty!!!

So play around, have fun, show your treasures!!!!

I will post another "exception to the rules" (rules are, at times, made to be broken!) tomorrow!

Have a fabulous Tuesday!!

Just Fun!!

I Love this vignette in my dining room, but, I mean really....for someone who loves color, kinda lacking!!! Sooooooooooo, I found some just plane FUN material, and "got me some color!!"

A cheap, $4. lamp shade and a dollars worth of material....can you say color and FUN!!!
Now, if you are using a "nearly barrel" shade as I did, stay away from straight patterns such as stripes or plaids...it will surly show as crooked.
BUT, if you choose a pattern such as I did, it will just show as completely cool!!!!

A job I completed while watching football. Did not even have to leave the couch!!!

Go, make some fun today!!!!!!!!!!!

Reapholstering An Ottoman.....

We have a footstool that is used all the time, ALL the time. We have changed baby diapers on this stool, used it as a makeshift chair, coffee table, and of course, put our feet on it!

It was indire need of a re-do.......so, after a trip taken with my Mom, Aunt and Daughter a few weeks ago, which ended in some really cool material shopping, I finally tackled said footstool.

Here is the material that I purchased for the re-do

I decided to add 2 inch legs, to replace the slider disc that were previously on the bottom. The legs however did not come in 2 in length, so I commissioned my husband (through some eye batting) to cut the 8 in legs I purchased into the 2 inch ones I needed.

I cut a square of material to the desired size of the top and sewed right sides together the sides to the top. Pulled of old material, put on new, stapled about 100 staples to the bottom of the "box", added stained legs and voile'!!!! Love it!

Here are the results.
