I am in love with a certain shade of pink.

I know! It is so out of my character and never a color I would put on my walls , or purchase a towel this color or put it as a pop of color in my living room.

I would, in a heart beat, decorate a baby girls room in pink. I would in a heart beat buy anything pink for our youngest daughter, but never would I decorate with it......

Unless it is in a vase, glass or of course, clothing.

I just had to share these pictures from "A Beach Cottage" because they express exactly what I would do with pink.

Ok, one exception...I do not believe I would purchase a pink VW van. But it sure looks cool!!!

Enjoy!

Just a Quick Post

I was looking thru a few of my photos from the past three weeks and ran across this picture.

Our son is on the front cover a tech magazine! Yep, the man who has the short sleeves on and is the most in focus in this picture....it just happens that way.

Yes, it is a legit, 120 page magazine that churches (or anyone else that wants) can purchase and learn all the techie things to do with lighting, sound and video.

Our son started going to hear his Dad play and sing in concerts at about 2 months old.
He grew up standing next to his Dad at a sound board in the church and running sound while his Mom sang for years in an ensemble.
You could say it is in his blood.

Evan has taken all his talent and turned it into a wonderful profession.
He has run sound, lighting and video for the likes of: Clint Black, ESPN coverage of the Super Bowl, and many more.

Yes, we are proud.

We are over the top proud of all our children. I just wrote about Evan because our son made it ON THE COVER OF A MAGAZINE!

Ok, I'm done now.

A Glamorous Weekend!

Of course, that depends on your definition of glamorous!

Mine is MUCH different than the actual weekend that I did have.....

Usually is.

Saturday, I spent the entire day cooking and cleaning.

I LOVE to cook and did a lot of it.

Cleaning....eh, not so much love here.

While putting the dishes away from the dish washer I dropped a small lid on my foot.

You know, the kind of pain you get when you hit your foot really hard, you jump up and down on the un-injured foot, eyes watering, and you really could pee down your good leg?

Yes??

Nope, that is not at all how it went. I simply said, "man, that kinda hurt".  And did not think of it at all the rest of the day. No pain at all after the initial drop.

And then I got up the next morning. CAN NOT WEAR MY SHOE! The pain was aweful!

How did that happen???????? Pretty sure the bone is bruised. There is a lump, swelling and bruising. Seriously?????

Do you know how badly I dispise wearing ugly shoes!!?? I had to wear my ugly house shoes (they are kind of like material covered crocs....yep) to church.

Ewwww.

And then I came home from church, fixed lunch and let the dogs out back to run a bit.

Yes, you guessed it. The male dog came back covered in dead leaves. d e a d  l e a v e s.

So out to the deck we go. Fur buster in hand. Scissors in hand.

The dog did not like me very much.

Did I mention I spent most of the day Saturday cleaning?

Do you blame me for fur busting the dog?

Didn't think so.

p.s. I completely used the wrong lens on my camera, but I was so flustered over the amount of dead leaves falling in my living room, that I just grabbed the camera and didn't pay attention to the lens. But you get the picture. hehehehe.

My Wedding Dress

We are planning a family vacation this summer to the east coast.

It is a place that we love. Barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina known as The Outer Banks. (Message In A Bottle and Nights In Rodanthe are two movies that I know of that were filmed there)

It is our anniversary and the knowledge that all of our children are going to be under one roof, playing in the surf each day has me just about jumping out of my skin! Seriously!

But there is one thing that my sweet hubby and I are going to do. We are getting some pictures taken on the beach, I in my wedding gown and he in the rehearsal dinner attire that he wore at our daughter's wedding, which is the last time that our entire family was together all in the same room!

Before you ask if my hubby is the same size as when we married, please know that I am NOT renting a powder blue tux to take with us!!! And my husband did all the tux stuff for our wedding, as I was on crutches recovering from a major knee reconstruction...off crutches 5 days before walking down the isle.

So, I went over to Mia Madre's house and retrieved my gown....and I was afraid of a yellow mess for sure.....

What a very pleasant surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to modify the gown...take off the sleeves and lower the collar but wowza! That is a spectacular white!! We all gasped when it was un-boxed.

We will be married 35 glorious years in July.....but other than the style of the gown, you would never know that it is that old!

Our Back Yard

I put on my boots, grabbed my camera and headed to our river bank.

I took the dogs...really bad idea! Can you say MUD FEST! Wow!

But I snapped some pictures of the ice. For the most part about a foot thick, but there were  many, many chunks that were closer to two foot thick.

As I stood next to the ice covered river, the sound of the ice beginning to crack was a bit un-nerving.

It up-rooted trees, drug large whole trees down the river with it and took someone's cherished dock to eventually end up in the Gulf of Mexico.

Here are the pictures I took Monday.

And the next set I took a mere 24 hours later. The quality of these photos are not as good since I was using a zoom lens.....my fear level was that of "stayin up top on the bank today" the river was running sooooooooooooo fast and the damage and debris were immense.

It will take a while for the ice to melt, the ground to dry and the river to be back within it's banks.

Cabbage Salad (my take)

My Dad used to request a cabbage salad that came from his family, who were not German....my Mom's family on the other hand, very German (Bingenhiemer is the family name....yep, you really do not get any more German than that!) and I would always get to help with this salad.

It really brings me back to my childhood in a great way. (along with bashing catfish in the head with a huge hammer to knock them out so my Dad could gut and skin them....yes, you read that correctly)

So, I want to share this recipe with you.

It has only 3 ingredients!

1 small head of green cabbage

(I suppose you could use red, but I'm not messin with tradition here!)

6 slices of bacon - diced and fried crispy and you WILL be using the grease from the bacon!

From 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup white vinegar - to your taste, I like a lot of vinegar (I suppose we used white because you can buy a gallon for like eighty nine cents!)

Why yes, I have one of the coolest liquid measuring cups ever!

Cut up the entire head of cabbage into about a 1/2 in dice (now you know why my Dad had me help!) and place the raw cabbage in a large bowl.

Cook bacon and grease & all pour the hot frying mess over the cabbage!!

Stir in the vinegar and eat while warm. (Because cold bacon grease has never helped anyone get greens down!)

That's it!

I know it sounds a bit odd, but that salty, sour crunch is really a thing to try. We only ate it about 3 times a year (good thing, cause I want to keep my arteries going for a while!) and it is really not that bad calorie wise, as the vinegar and cabbage are about void of calories.
It is gluten free!

I hope that you will try this...it really is amazing and not something that you will have every tried, unless you grew up in my home!
